On April 23,2014, contracted by CEICloud, the third "High-capacity Optical Storage Technology Seminar and China Big Data Optical Storage Industry Alliance Initiation Conference" was successfully held.

Existing mainstream storage technology is difficult to meet requirements of big data era to long-term, safe and efficient storage of huge amounts of data, this is consensus of experts attending the conference of the third "High-capacity Optical Storage Technology Seminar and China Big Data Optical Storage Industry Alliance Initiation Conference" held on April 23.

Academician Gan Fuxi said at the seminar, " storage of big data era is facing the first challenge of how to safely save the data, namely data cannot be tampered after storage, and current magnetic storage technology can't meet the requirements of data security preservation; The second challenge is that existing storage technologies consume a lot of energy; The third challenge is to keep the data in place for a long time, with many data being kept for 50 years or even hundreds of years, while existing commercial hard drives would not last more than 10 years.

Gan Fuxi considered that three main advantages of optical storage are: First is that the base plate is made of solid, durable materials; Second is the non-volatile nature of optical storage; Third is for long-term preservation. So far as the optical storage technology developing, the characteristics of security, low energy consumption, long service life and fast increasing of single medium data capacity, it has unique advantages in terms of long-term, safe and efficient data storage requirements.
